Dr. Ernesto Pulido Inaugural address
at the PCR Annual Convention February 2009
…Magandang gabi sa inyong lahat. According to the great US President John F. Kennedy, “Ask not what the country can do for you, rather, ask what you can do for your country. Let me rephrase his statement to words suitable to our milieu, “Ask not what the Philippine College of Radiology can do for you, rather, ask what you can do for the PCR.”
I will answer this million dollar question with another query addressed to the general membership…What is written at the end of your names when you sign your official report? F.P.C.R. which stands for FELLOW OF THE PHILIPPINE COLLEGE OF RADIOLOGY. These four letters after your name signifies that the Philippine College of Radiology vouches for you allowing you to work as radiologist anywhere in the country. This guarantee sealed by our mother organization given to you when you swore oath upon certification is more than a benefit. These four letters permit you to work and to earn a living. That, ladies and gentlemen, is an ultimate privilege for any aspiring radiologist. I have been a PCR member since 1974 and have been a part of the board for the past 20 years. I have been a witness to the toils of the dedicated members steadfast to make things better and to create an image of the modern radiologist respectable to fellow physicians in other fields. Though these efforts are indisputable, we cannot do it alone. Concerted labors from each one of us, from the senior citizens to the new generation, are of utmost value to make the PCR closer to its vision of becoming “the world-class professional organization of Filipino radiologists committed to the highest standards of practice, education, training and research.” With our current situation, we are almost there near to reaching this goal. However, there is still a lot to be done to improve our lot. Radiologists work best in the dark, but we should not be content to stay in the dark and remain as mere shadows behind the clinicians, for we play a major role in patient healthcare. We should stand to this challenge and claim our place in the medical community. We can achieve this if we work together regardless of age and status. Just like the human body, each member is a part to make the PCR whole. We may have individual differences and functions, but we comprise and make up the organization itself. Thus, we should be united and fend for each other. “What can I offer for the PCR?” The mission of this incoming governance coincides and echoes that of the PCR. We will continue to advocate the highest standards in radiology, giving importance to ethical practice, dealing with professional concerns, and building solidarity and camaraderie among its members. |
